Itinerary

Your adventure begins with convenient pickup in downtown Anchorage near Log Cabin Visitor Center on 4th Avenue between E and F Street. Your knowledgeable local guide will lead you though the city’s most scenic and historically significant areas.

Discover how Anchorage evolved from a modest tent city along Ship Creek in 1915 to become Alaska’s vibrant urban center. Learn about the profound influence of the Alaska Railroad, military presence, and the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake that shaped the modern city. Throughout the tour, your guide will share insights about the Dena’ina Athabascan people who have called this region home for thousands of years.

The highlight of your tour awaits at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, Alaska’s premier cultural institution. Here, you’ll have approximately 90 minutes to immerse yourself in the traditions, languages, and practices of Alaska’s diverse indigenous cultures. Inside the Welcome House, witness captivating performances of traditional dance, music, games, and storytelling in the Gathering Place.

Don’t miss the scenic walking trail around Lake Tiulana, where life-sized traditional dwellings represent the major cultural groups of Alaska. Step inside authentic recreations of homes from Athabascan, Yup’ik, Inupiaq, Alutiiq, Aleut, and Southeast Alaska Native peoples. Knowledgeable cultural ambassadors are stationed throughout to answer your questions and share their personal connections to these living traditions.

Browse the center’s exquisite collection of Native artwork and authentic handcrafts in the gift shop before your comfortable return trip to downtown Anchorage.
