Tour Highlights

Itinerary

Step off your cruise ship and straight into another Alaskan adventure. Our friendly driver-guide will greet you at the Whittier Cruise Terminal for a relaxed and welcoming start to your journey inland.

The adventure begins immediately as you traverse the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, a remarkable one-lane, 2.5-mile passage bored through solid mountain rock. Hear stories of its secret WWII history and why it’s still the only road link in and out of Whittier.

Emerging from the tunnel, you’ll follow the Seward Highway, famed as one of America’s most scenic drives. Look out across the shimmering waters of Turnagain Arm, framed by towering peaks and rugged cliffs. Keep your camera ready, Dall sheep often perch along the rock faces, and beluga whales can sometimes be spotted in summer.

Your guide will share local stories and insights that bring the landscape to life, from the Indigenous Dena’ina people who have lived here for millennia to the dramatic 1964 earthquake that forever changed this coastline.

A highlight of your day is a visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where you’ll have time to explore this expansive refuge dedicated to native Alaskan animals. Wander along easy trails for amazing views and photo opportunities as you encounter:

  • Brown and black bears in naturalistic habitats
  • Towering wood bison and shaggy muskoxen
  • Majestic moose and herds of caribou and elk
  • Wolves, foxes, lynx, and other iconic species

Interpretive displays and staff share the stories behind the center’s vital mission to protect and rehabilitate Alaska’s wildlife heritage.

After your wildlife adventure, settle back in your comfortable motorcoach for the final leg of the journey. Enjoy more sweeping views along Turnagain Arm as you travel toward Anchorage. Whether you’re catching a flight or checking in downtown, your driver will ensure you arrive relaxed, informed, and inspired by the incredible places you’ve seen.
